Frequently Asked
Question

  • Is it safe to eat during the trek?

Yes, it's safe. Meals are made with fresh ingredients and proper hygiene standards. We make sure the food is healthy, delicious, and suitable for trekking conditions. Special diets can be accommodated if requested in advance.

  • What is the best time for trekking in Morocco?

The best time for trekking in Morocco, especially in the Atlas Mountains and Mount Toubkal, is during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). During these seasons, the weather is mild, the skies are clear, and the landscapes are at their most beautiful. For adventure lovers, we also organize a Toubkal winter trek, offering a unique experience of hiking through snow-covered peaks.

  • What problems can arise on altitude?

Altitude sickness can sometimes be a concern for mountain travelers. However, the risk of altitude sickness in the High Atlas Mountains, including Mount Toubkal, is very low. Over the many years we have been organizing treks and hiking tours in the Atlas, none of our clients have experienced serious altitude-related issues. Our professional mountain guides are fully trained to recognize the early signs of altitude sickness and know exactly how to handle any situation, ensuring your trek remains safe and enjoyable.

  • Should I bring trekking equipment with me?

You can easily rent equipment for a reasonable price in Imlil before your trek, but it’s always preferable and more convenient to have your own equipment during trekking, so we advise you to bring equipment with you.

  • What kind of clothes is needed for trekking?

For Atlas Trekking you need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Here is the equipment and clothing we suggest.

  • How difficult are the treks?

Trekking in Morocco offers routes for all levels. The difficulty depends on the region, altitude, and length of the trek. Shorter hikes in the Atlas Mountains are usually easy and accessible to most travelers, while longer expeditions require better physical fitness.
To guide you, we use a 3-level grading system:

    • Easy (Grade 1): Tend to be short day walks and rambles at low altitudes. Grade 1 walks can be enjoyed by anyone who leads a reasonably active life and no special preparation is required.
    • Moderate (Grade 2):Walks of 4–6 hours a day, usually under 3,000m. Some hill-walking experience helps, but they are still manageable for most active people.
    • Strenuous (Grade 3):Are for the more serious hill walker and a higher level of physical fitness is required. Walking days are normally 6-8 hours and may involve up to 900m or more of ascent and descent. You should be prepared for several consecutive days walking, often at higher altitudes, so stamina is important.
  • What happens in case of emergency?

Toubkalgo is prepared for any emergency situation and knows how to handle it. Our guides are trained in first aid and can deal with most of the basic ailments that occur during a trek. Every client should have his own insurance before coming to Morocco for case of emergency.
